Molecular clouds in Interstellar Space contain a baffling array of complex chemistry; everything from aromatic hydrocarbons to alcohol and amino acids. This installation is an attempt to organise this complexity into a coherent form.
In a literal application of scientific model-making, the roles of the molecular cloud, and the chemicals which resident therein, are interpreted by the use of common insulating board and a toy railway. Displayed in the tanker wagons are examples of the (often poetic) molecular nomenclature and these orbit into and out of the cloud. In this sense the installation is acting as a chemical orrery.
